FAQs

What can I expect if I buy one of your digital patterns?

If you buy one of our patterns, you will receive a PDF file or zipped folder that will be available to download on your payment confirmation screen, links to download your pattern(s) will also arrive via the email address you have typed in at the check-out stage. Once you’ve made your purchase, this file should arrive immediately in your inbox, along with an order confirmation. Your PDF file includes the project instructions and the templates you need to start.

How will I know if the pattern is going to be right for me?

We’ve tried to provide as much information on each page to help you choose the right pattern for you. We’ve included information on the skill level, the material and tools required, as well as the skills that crop up too. If you need more specific information about the design you’d like to purchase, get in touch with us at hello@sewmag.co.uk

Can I download the patterns if I’m based somewhere other than the UK?

Yes, we’re pleased to say that our designs are accessible all around the world. We list UK sizing on our dressmaking patterns, so be sure to check the size chart first before you start making your design.

How do I know my pattern is the right size for me?

The majority of our dressmaking patterns are available in UK sizes 8-24, please check the individual patterns carefully for sizing prior to purchase as refunds are not available. When you download the pattern, you will receive a size chart to help you find the best fit for you.

Sewing pattern sizes can be different to your high street size, so we recommended comparing your body measurements to our size chart first. If you are between two sizes, measure a well-fitting garment in your wardrobe and then compare it with our garment measurements. We also recommend that you make a toile, so that you can adjust the design if needed before using your final material.

How do I print my pattern?

Your PDF pattern can be printed on A4 sized paper. Before you print, make sure you select "Actual Size" or scale to 100%. Do not select ‘scale to fit’.If your pattern has multiple pages, you’ll find an overview on how to piece your pattern together in numerical order. With our dressmaking patterns, you can check the size is correct by measuring the test square.

I’ve purchased a pattern, but it still hasn’t arrived in my emails. Help!

We're sorry to hear that! Sometimes our email ends up in people’s spam folders. Double check your spam folder and if you still don't see it, email us at hello@sewmag.co.uk and we will get this sorted out for you.

Can I sell toys or clothing from your patterns?

Sorry, but SewHQ patterns are for personal and non-profit use only. Our patterns can only be used to make items for either yourself or as gifts.

How many times can I download my PDF pattern?

Once you’ve downloaded your PDF pattern, you’ll have access for a limited period. Patterns can be removed from the site without prior notice. As such we recommend downloading and saving your pattern onto your hard drive or computer straight away.

Can I share my PDF pattern with a friend or family member once I’ve bought it?

We respectfully ask that you do not share the PDF with others once you have made your purchase. If you have downloaded a PDF file, it is intended for use by the purchaser only.

What is the seam allowance on my pattern?

The seam allowance on all Sew HQ patterns is 1.5cm, unless otherwise stated in the instructions. The seam allowance is already included so there’s no need to resize your designs to allow for this.
